“I come from a Christian home and a single mother who has always lived fearlessly in her love for God, her church and her family. Naturally, the first genre of music I was introduced to growing up was ‘90s Gospel. By my eighteenth birthday, this had grown to include my love for Electronic, Jazz, Neo-Soul and ‘90s Hip-Hop & R&B.
I was a performing artist from primary school in numerous plays and this plateaued in high school with singing in the choir. During this time, I was introduced to Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs) like FL Studio and this is where my passion for composing beats was born.
In 2012, I left home to pursue tertiary studies in Cape Town. Over the next four years: I would make the national Top 10 in MTV Base VJ Search; join a media group of musicians and filmmakers (that later dissolved); develop in my craft of singing, song-writing and beat-making while engaging the audio-visual talent in the Mother City, to finally being financially excluded from the University of Cape Town between two visits to the psychiatric ward where I was diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder.
The interpersonal relationships formed, lost and altered throughout this journey of self-discovery were the foundation for Black Dog (debut EP) which I entirely composed, wrote and recorded in 2016 in partnership with Cultured Chaos Entertainment based in Durban.
