‘Iindlela Zamandulo’ is the second release on Foresta’s freshly launched label Foresta Music. After dropping ‘Believe’ with Jamaican newcomers Royal Blu & Lila Ike in late August, this newest release comes straight from the vibrant Hiphop scene of South Africa.
During his recent trip to South Africa music producer Foresta teamed up with Cape Town-based artists Uno July and Crosby for a deep Hiphop track outlining today’s living realities of many black South Africans in the post-Apartheid country.
‘The idea behind my verses revolves around our colonial history and how it has affected Africans today, from an economic point of view especially. Furthermore I acknowledge and celebrate the freedom fighters, poets, writers and generally creatives for their contribution in raising such an awareness.’ – Uno July
The lyrics are backed up by the strong visuals of the music video. The video depicts images of township life in Cape Town as well as a ritual with elements from the Venda culture, honoring passed black freedom fighters from South Africa and the diaspora – thereby drawing the connection to the global black struggle. The video was directed by German / South African artist Thandi Sebe – who used her own Venda and German cultural background as inspiration – and shot by Foresta. Famous South African actor Tshamano Sebe, who left South Africa during Apartheid to do political theatre in German and Europe and pursue his dream of becoming an actor, joined the video for a guest appearance.
‘Iindlela Zamandulo’ is dropped on 28th of October 2016 on all digital platforms.
