Known for his amazing collaboration with Kiid’Flacko, Jay-Smooth proves to be one of the best upcoming artists but he doesn’t see himself as one of the best yet because he said there’s still more work to do and therefore, he says the music will speak for itself. Jay-Smooth happens to sing and also rap and he has worked with Demolish Immxrtal, Kiid’Flacko and Rvckz, to mention a few. Jay-Smooth sees himself as the Notorious B.I.G of Maglera and aims to not only tell stories through music, making club bangers but to also share knowledge and inspire his peers and the youth of today.
Born in Klerksdorp, North West, ZA. Lebohang Thuto Mokhatla, known by his stage name Jay-Smooth, first started rapping at the age of sixteen back in 2015. He was first inspired by his closest cousin Masopha Jeremiah Mokhatla “Lil Mass” who was also a rapper, but this was when he was still in primary school.
Smooth went to Roosheuwel Primary School where he first discovered his passion for art which is drawing before he became interested in music and this is the very same school where he met Demolish Immxrtal, Rvckz, Hype Rvbsxn, Paballo “TeePee” Motsatse & many more. In 2013, he started high school in Klerksdorp Technical High School where he first discovered his love for music. During his high school years, he started listening to rappers such as Hopsin, Meek Mill & many more.
In 2014, he first released a song called “She Knows” which was also co-produced by Amxgelang. The word started spreading that there was a “new kid” on the block and some of his classmates starting asking him if it’s true that he raps, that inspired him to release more songs. He release two songs “Broken Heart” and “I can’t lose her” which didn’t do well on the downloads, but that didn’t stop him from making more music.
In 2015, He made a song called “Trust No Hoe” where he featured Kiid’Flacko and the song gained a lot of exposure and since he was busy making name for himself, his focus was and still is, making his supporters happy and to also enjoy what he does as much as he’d like his supporters to. Like he once said “My aim is to make people enjoy listening to my music as well as to learn and relate to it”.
